8 most common interior decorations you want to avoid

Here we do not think about the choice of furniture or colors, but the whole, as the furniture and lighting in your interior. Here are 9 small tips and tricks on how to optimize your already beautiful home!

We all have our personal interior style and taste, and so it should be. By interior design we do not mean the choice of sofa, color or style, but can, for example, be the sofa or curtain placement that could be optimized. Here we are talking about that little extra that can lift your home to new heights!

8 interior fittings you really want to avoid:

1. Using furniture that doesn't fit
Do you have a room you do not really like? If it might be some furniture and scraps and not really fit in, move it to another room. Also consider how the furniture fits in size - a large room requires more sophisticated pieces, while a smaller room feels better by smaller furniture.

2. Over-decorate

A bedroom with carefully selected items on display.
"Less is more" can in many cases be walkable even in interior design. Or at least striving for a good balance between all the beautiful things you want to surround yourself with. Take a lap in your rooms and think:

- Which of my things are important to me?

- Which of my things are important to me?

- What can I do without?

Stow away and use seasonally, some things may even be sold. Take a few more turns until you feel completely ready.

3. Overfurnish

The boundary between a well-balanced furniture and that furniture that makes it tip over and becomes too much can sometimes be delicate. An over-furnished room feels cramped and devours energy. Strive to create so much space and air in the furniture that it is easy to move. Sometimes it can help to re-furnish.

4. Want everything at once

Don't buy too much and above all not all at once. Your decor feels good to mature - if you are too fast in your purchases, there is a great risk that you will regret it, which becomes more expensive in the long run. Think about what you really want and then save for it.

5. Hanging the curtains unfavorably

Not thinking about a turn when the curtains are going up is a common mistake. It's easy to do as you always do. To create space and let in light, strive to put your curtains as high up in the ceiling as possible.

6. Buy everything from the same place

Avoid buying entire furniture from one and the same furniture store. A home to thrive in needs personality and details that break off. After all, there is something in the slightly worn interior clutch "we furnish with a personal mix of furniture stores, inherited and flea finds"!

7. Furnish along the walls

Of course, creative furnishing and avoiding the walls do not work in all rooms. But it may be worth testing! Set against the walls, there is often a large, empty floor above and which is not really used. Instead, see in front of you small cozy islands of furniture groups, a small reading corner, drink-coffee-after-dinner group, lounging and cozy group, etc. Tie the islands together with carpets and sideboards, heck something happened in the room!

8. Ignore the lighting

The lighting in a room is A and O, for both the mood and the feeling. You may have furnished a room to perfection, but if you ignore the meaning of lighting, everything can fall flat. All rooms need three types of lighting and all are equally important for the whole: General lighting, work lighting and mood lighting. Beautiful lamps are also decorative.

6 best paint ideas that give your home a wow factor

A little color can create big change. Well, here are lots of tips and inspiration for a fresh quickfix with our best DIY ideas. Paint a heavenly bed, stylish vases or a very personal wallpaper!

DIY 1: Create four-poster bed with paint

Many of us are dreaming of a four-poster bed, so far we have to live in an illusion… And paint our own with paint and paint. Bed frame, vault and spatial illusions, yes please! Here we have painted the effects with the help of masking tape and harmonious colors.

DIY 2: Paint your own pattern on the wallpaper

Release the ruler - do a mural! Wallpaper in all honor, but sometimes sets both budget and lack of time - and your own expression of desire! - stop. Embrace the imperfect, dare to paint the wall yourself!

DIY 3: Spray paint vase - paint pattern

Spray white - decorate with black. Paint and decorate the vases - inspired by the professional. Cover with white and then decorate with organic shapes. Vases from the Ants were first sprayed completely white and then received the decoration of black fields in organic forms. A soft brush is preferred when painting on a free hand.

DIY 4: Panel wall with va-va-voom

A panel wall is elegant, creates life and depth - and actually makes it easy to do yourself! And pssst, did you know that arches and arches are on their way back into the interior?

DIY 5: Painting on glass door and lampshade

My little coward and I! A simple white lampshade has a playful pattern, and the glass doors have been figuratively painted on the inside.

The single-color lampshade was animal-patterned using two colors, masking tape and mini rolls. The cabinet's glass doors have received nice figurative decor on the inside of the glass when we painted two faces with wall paint; the quirky thing here is that the paint is easily removed with ice scraper if you get tired.

DIY 6: How to paint your own painting on plywood

What a blackboard! On plywood you can paint almost anything and it becomes beautiful, the natural wood of the wood gives a painterly feeling completely free of charge.

On plywood you can paint almost anything and it becomes beautiful, the natural wood of the wood gives a painterly feeling completely free of charge.

The inspiration for the pattern on our plywood board is taken from concrete tiles, and the crescent shapes have been easily drawn using a barrel. The painting is painted with the same lacquer colors that have become over when we painted the seats on the pallets. In some parts we have chosen to dilute the color to make the vein appear more clear.

5 most common mistakes when painting the furniture

Painting furniture is not as easy as many people think.
In addition to color and patience, a lot of knowledge is needed.

Here are the 5 most common mistakes - and we'll tell you what to do instead!

There is no shortage of tips and advice on how to repaint your furniture. But many are not complete, nor do they address the mistakes you easily make as a beginner. Mistakes that can make the result not as good looking, and last worse. Therefore, we have compiled a list of all mistakes that most beginners make, and how to do for the nicest and best results!

1. Sandpaper / sanding

There are plenty of tips that say you don't need sandpaper at all. There are also several colors that say that grinding is not necessary. But it is a must! If you want good results. Sand all surfaces, but be careful not to ruin the surface. You just need to "rock up" it a bit so the color has something to attach to. Use a lighter sandpaper if the surface is lacquered.

2. Remove any residue

Wipe off the surface with a wipe to remove any debris before painting. Do not use paper towels, they can be peeled off.

3. Pre-treat

If you are going to paint, there are different primers depending on whether it is a laminated furniture or not. Question in the color trade. Use a small foam rubber roller and then a foam rubber brush for the hard to reach places. When the primer has completely dried, remove any "drops" with a grinding pad, and finish with wiping off with a pad.

4. Paint

Use a small foam rubber roller and apply three thin layers of semi-gloss latex paint. Allow it to dry between six and eight hours between the strokes. Grind (use the grinding block) between the times if you have any bumps. It is important that you wipe off with a new cleaning cloth, you must remove every small fluff and dust grain before the next step.

5. Finish

The final step is to protect the paint with surface treatment. Use a new foam rubber roller to apply a thin layer of acrylate-based wood lacquer. Carefully apply the roller to even out any bubbles that may occur. Then let it dry for 72 hours. Clear!

Pattern mix - 3 tips for a successful result

Hope you had a nice weekend and enjoyed the sun and spring heat. I thought we would start the week with tips on pattern mix in an interior, and how to succeed in not getting it plotty.

1 Pick up the colors in the pattern

If you have a pattern pick up some of the colors (suggestively two), the pattern does not stand alone and it feels well thought out.

2 Uniform color calms

When you have a pattern you always have to have a lone color that calms down. In this case a white sheet (not with pattern) but in a uniform fresh scale of the pattern. It can also be a puff in a suit, a pillow, a headboard. Everything cannot have patterns, and our eyes need something to rest our eyes on the pattern sea.

3 The size of the pattern matters

When you mix different patterns, size matters. In this case, the flower pattern, then it is possible to mix with a completely different pattern, kind of striped but if you want to mix with another flower pattern, then that pattern must be of a much smaller scale (or larger) than it is for it to be Good. Quite simply not too similar because then they compete with each other instead of lifting each other. And always with a common color scheme that holds the patterns together.

The things you need to stop decorating by 2020

Of course, everyone should be furnished with such things as oneself likes and thinks are fine.

But when a trend becomes TO trendy, some gadgets have a tendency to appear just all the time. Everywhere. In everyone's home. And suddenly it becomes impersonal and sad.

Here are the gadgets that we are tired of seeing at home with - yes, everyone. It's time to stop decorating with them, at least if we want a personal style.

Pst! Keep in mind that the article is written with the twinkle in the eye and should be read afterwards.

We are probably many people who have noticed interior trends and in recent years bought Eames chairs (or cheaper copies), we have painted the walls in trendy gray and furnished in the same color and we have bought a nice lamp with glory because we have seen it everywhere and learned we like it. Wow, how many we are keeping up with the trends anyway! But as soon as we fall in love with a velvet chair or bed in the children's room, just as quickly we can get tired when we see that this is in almost every home.

1. Gray tone in tone

Gray is very fine, we agree with that. And certainly it is nice to paint an office in the same color as the wall. Gray has become the new white - a color for those who took the courage to leave the white but did not feel tough enough to choose a more daring color. And yes, that's fine.

But gray on gray on gray - on both walls, furniture and curtains! No! Who wants to live in a gray-gray home? Keep something gray, absolutely, but we promise that if you dare to bring in another color also everything will be so much happier and more vibrant.

2. Dusty bed sky in children's room

Oh, bed heaven in children's room is an incredibly nice interior decoration. This large, wide, lovely bed heaven can be had over a regular bed, over the crib - but it can also be used in a cozy corner with a small round carpet on the floor and a bunch of pillows. Oh, how cute! We really love it.

But think about another lap. HOW should you manage to keep the bed sky free of dust? It's not possible! On the contrary, it is a really stubborn dust collector. The lengths are eternally long so whether you hang it as high as you can, it will drag on the floor. (It is a bit of a point if you have it in a cozy corner.) You will think it is super cozy, but you will regret it when you notice what a dust collector it is. We promise, we've tested ...

3. Practical velvet chairs with metal legs

Oh, how nice it is to settle down on a velvet chair! It gives a warm and cozy feeling in the room (and for the butt that will sit for a while) - and such a feeling you would like to. But now comes a big but: IT IS YOU SO PRACTICAL !? What is it really for people who have velvet chairs at the dining table? Take that question right now, because we are above all impressed. How to keep the chairs clean? Isn't it incredibly hard not to be able to easily wipe a chair from spillage? Or do you never play? What happens if children come to visit, do you dress the chairs in plastic then? Anyway: can we agree to ship velvet chairs?

4. "Unique" newborn paintings

No, no, no, it hurts the heart to say that the personal birth plates have become boring and impersonal when you have them for your children yourself ... "What impersonal is that unique to each child?" maybe you think then? And yes, that is true. Here the child is illustrated on a 1: 1 scale in the birth size and also the length, weight and full name are on the board. A nice memory, of course.

But now there has been inflation in the boards, they are soon in every toddler's home - another detail that makes our homes the same. (Of course, you may have your painting on the wall, but you also feel that you would rather put up a more unique painting on the wall - save the birth chart for your child!)

5. The bland Hemnet style

We see it in about every other Hemnet ad - the style everyone seems to start to like. In this home is the swindling Sarfatti lamp (or a cheaper variant that looks basically the same), it's the Eames chairs (or any of the copies) and it's pampas grass in a fancy vase. Ideally, it should be a black industrial glass wall in the bathroom or bedroom as well. And of course a painting wall, preferably in black and white.

This is of course extremely trendy, and we call it the Hemnet style. We understand that many people have taken it - you learn to like what you see often. But the style has become very impersonal as we see it everywhere. It's time for something else - if you want a little more unique style. In addition, black industrial glass walls are both expensive and impractical.

6. Disposable lamps and other wear and hose gadgets

It is time to start seriously thinking about what and how we consume. Should you buy a gadget - buy a real one instead of buying a cheap plastic spoon that is neither good for the environment nor yourself, or any cheap ornament that you spontaneously buy and tire of after six months. And don't buy any of those lights where you can't replace the light source itself! There are lots - the letter lamps, the balloon lamps and the lamps for the children's room that look like clouds. Imagine if it breaks when you move, or if you accidentally drop the lamp and it crashes - then you can't buy a new light source but have to throw everything away. Help what's bad about not being able to reuse a lamp !?

7. Animal pattern taking over

It's zebra and it's leopard - and these animal patterns are everywhere. On pillows, rugs and on traps. They take up a lot of space and are visible so much that it takes over. No, now we are tired of all the animal patterns. Give away to someone who is overjoyed in this pattern, or put up on the attic and come back up once we get some rest from it for a while.

8. Allergy-friendly upholstered headboard

Yes, it looks cozy and cozy with the padded headboard. However, if you are hypersensitive or allergic to mites, this is a headboard to avoid. At least if you don't have allergies. By the way, everyone else should avoid it too - like dust collectors! It is difficult with furniture that collects dust and cannot be wiped off!

9. Large lamps and candlesticks with halo

They are large and they are impractical - the candlesticks that stand on side tables, the lamps that hang in the window and are available as Advent candlesticks. And isn't it really bland really, the lamp with glory? Well, put it up in the attic and bring it up again in a few years when it is not as common.

10. The large and elusive plaque

It may be cozy, but Chunky blankets and all the copies and self-knit huge blankets have been everywhere for a long time now. Very long time. This trend is over. Do you need a blanket for the sofa or bed? Choose another one! The large, heavy and elusive plaque has done its job - a long time ago.

Looking to buy new? Think sustainable and used!

Trends come and go, so if you have a lamp there at home that you are tired of or that suddenly feels out of time - put it in the storage room for a while, then you probably want to pick it up in a few years again. If nothing else, your children will thank you when the trend returns. Are you looking to buy new? Remember to buy sustainable things and things that you yourself will be happy with instead of slavishly following trends. Look for used ones first. Block, Tradera or local Facebook groups are perfect for bargains.
